This publication reflects on and reinforces the lessons and experience of undertaking transboundary conservation programmes and sets out some existing and new guidance for those involved. Protected areas play a major role in reducing climate changing carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Fifteen percent of the world's terrestrial carbon stock - 312 gigatonnes - are stored in protected areas around the world. Protected areas also serve as natural buffers against climate impacts and other disasters, providing space for floodwaters to disperse, stabilizing soil against landslides and blocking storm surges.

Wetlands in Danger provides the reader with a unique overview of the state of the world's wetlands. The extensive atlas section, with maps showing their conservation status, is the result of a major mapping collaboration with WCMC and IUCN. Throughout the atlas, colourful feature spreads focus on wetland issues in each region. The book concludes with positive recommendations for the future of wetland, and their conservation.

TRAFFIC initiated a series of surveys to gather basic data on the status, management, and trade of the American black bear. The purpose of the effort was to establish a baseline of information on the species and to examine trends over a period of years. TRAFFIC published the results of the first two surveys in a previous report. This report culminates the project, summarizing information from TRAFFIC’s third survey and comparing the data it provided to what was learned earlier.
